being able to live off the land. hunting animals for food, butchering them, cooking them.
being able to start a fire when needed
being able to defend myself from dangerous animals when needed
being able to create shelter within 5 hours of work.
and always prepared for such a inconvenience by never being more than 2 hours from my car and and always 5 days food/water in my car at all times when in the wilderness.
References :
Finding where I parked the truck so I don't have to spend the night in the woods while waiting for the search and rescue. Seriously, my best survival skills are the skills I've worked to hone so I never have to use my survival skills.
References :
if you get two bottles, you can urinate in one, tape the two together, bury them under some sand making sure the urine stays in one bottle and doesnt go into the other one. The one without the urine will get condensation and you can drink it. But you need to make sure that you can get the bottles apart without them running into each other. Sounds disgusting but apparently it works well. I'd rather try it then die of dehydration.
References :
one of those Serious Jungle/Desert/Arctic shows.
