if in deep woods, always carry a knife ready to pull out, you never know what could happen where you need that knife fast, also carry more then one knife for (a) spare(s), have good footwear and get good socks, don't look at the price tag, they shouldn't cost much and are completely worth it if walking a lot.
try to find a tent and a sleeping bag suited to the weather in the area, try for one level better then what's expected in your area, just to make sure.
try not to go cheap on anything your buying and look for usefulness, not looks or you'll probably regret it.
References :
Lets see... bring flashlights, extra batteries, a travel size bottle of mouth wash, a pillow, extra clothes in case of rain (especially socks), a nice warm jacket, a sleeping bag (if not, then a couple cozy blankets), etc.
Pack some food that doesn't need refrigerated, like granola bars, candy, crackers, chex mix, Doritos, etc.
Bring a couple bandaids, tampons... just in case. Toilet paper.
Bring water.
And what about waterless handwash gel...the antibacterial stuff? Like a little bottle of that. Just pack it in a ziplock so it doesn't leak.
Have fun!!
References :
Um, make sure you have a stable tent at first. Are you planning on sharing with another friend? Or keeping one all to yourself? Second, bring your simple toiletries... extras just in case. Next, BUG SPRAY. A HUGE necessity. Another thing is to bring a not-so-sturdy backpack/whatever you can bring around when you go hiking or other activities. Last, bring clothing.. QQ... you may want to bring comfortable ones and also some that are usable for "dirty" outdoor activities. Make sure you bring extra towels of all sizes too. Don't bring a huge luggage like the ones you do for trips overseas, but make sure you are able to haul it somehow over rocky terrain and other various objects.. the most important thing is that you have all your stuff!
References :
A lot of it depends on what kind of camping you are doing. Car camping or camping near your vehicle and a bathroom, or hiking to a secluded area.

Either way, be sure to bring some comfortable clothing. Layer up incase it gets cold or too warm. Bring some nice sturdy shoes and something comfy to sleep in. Don't forget a good sleeping bag and maybe even a camp mat (can get at Walmart, self inflates and makes sleeping on the ground a little less uncomfortable.) A water bottle is very important.
